FileBot is one of the best renamers around for films and TV. It looks each file up in online databases such as TheMovieDB and TheTVDB and renames it to the official title, year and episode number. If your library is mostly identifiable films and shows, it's hard to beat.
Plenty of video isn't in any database, though: course downloads, conference talks, family recordings, creator downloads, camera exports, old archives and clips. Point a database renamer at those and it has nothing to match. This guide compares FileBot with SceneSort Pro for that kind of library, honestly. (SceneSort Pro is our product.)

In those cases, use FileBot (or your media server's own scanner, or the free tinyMediaManager). SceneSort won't fetch official metadata.
Many people will do best with both tools, each on the files it's good at:
Movies or TV inbox, and everything else into a Personal or Archive folder. The free edition handles up to 500 files with every feature, which is usually enough to tell whether it suits your library.
When you don't need SceneSort: if almost everything you have is a recognisable film or TV episode, stick with FileBot, tinyMediaManager or your media server's scanner. They'll give you better names than any offline tool can. SceneSort is for the files those tools can't identify.
Yes, it has pattern-based renaming and a powerful format language, but you write the rules yourself, and the main strength of the app is database matching.
No. It's deliberately offline. It cleans names, finds duplicates, organises files and gives you a library to browse, but it doesn't download artwork or descriptions.
No. It's a single payment for unlimited files. See the pricing page for current details.
Every feature, up to 500 files, no card and no time limit.
